What King Crab Legs Should Cost in Alberta

King crab legs are a premium product, and the price reflects what it takes to get them. Harvested in the North Pacific in short, dangerous seasons, processed and flash frozen within hours, and shipped frozen to Alberta — there is no cheap version of this that is still good.

What drives the price is the count, not just the weight. King crab is graded by the number of legs per ten pounds — the fewer legs, the larger each one is. Jumbo and colossal legs cost more because you are getting bigger, meatier sections, and the yield of usable meat per shell is higher.

When you see king crab priced by the box, check the weight and the cluster count. A box of three to four clusters at around 1.8 kg is a typical household portion — enough for a generous meal for two to four people. Anything priced well below the market rate is usually a smaller count, water-added weight, or a different species labelled loosely.

Red king crab is the premium — sweeter, firmer and richer than blue or golden king crab. If a listing does not say 'red king crab,' it probably is not. Alaskan red king crab is the gold standard.

We sell Alaskan red king crab legs, flash frozen, vacuum-sealed and delivered to your door across Alberta. The weight and cluster count are listed on the product page so you know exactly what you are getting before you buy.
